Somerville Remembering Michael “George” Bishop

Michael George Bishop went by the name of George. He moved to Somerville from East Boston in the 1950’s, to Puritan Road in the Ten Hills. He worked at Harvard University for his whole career and was active at St. Polycarp Church and then St. Ann’s when St. Polycarp closed. 

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who was very active in Somerville politics, behind the scenes, back in the 70’s and 80’s. 

Michael George Bishop was a very nice man and a big part of the fabric that makes Somerville the greatest city on earth. 

He will be sadly missed in Somerville.

Loving father of Sandra Bishop-Josef and her husband Robert of Faifax, VA, Alan Bishop and his wife Amy Solano of Malden, Karen Bishop-Dumay and her husband Irvin of Arlington and Peter Bishop of Somerville. 

Brother of Elizabeth Luciano the late, Helen Lawrence, Paul, Jeanette, Florence, Robert, Dorothy Bishop and Pauline Mitchell. 

Dear grandfather of Ryan, Lauren, Trevor, Zachary, Olivia and Rafael. Great grandfather of Brianna. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral procession from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville, Saturday morning at 9am, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann Church, Somerville at 10:00.

Relatives and friends invited.

Calling hours Friday 4-8. 

Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. 

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in George’s memory to the Retired Men’s Club of Arlington, 1175 Concord Turnpike Arlington, MA 02476.
