First off I want to thank everybody for your generous donations of well needed supplies to the Somerville Blessing Boxes to help out our city’s less fortunate.

The Council on Aging wants you! – The SCOA is supporting D.A. Marian Ryan’s Project C.A.R.E. and Project Linus. Helping children of trauma have some comfort in their time of need by providing them with homemade blankets. Help us reach our goal of 200 blankets. Knitted, crochet or handmade fleece accepted. There will be a Public Hearing before the Board of Aldermen’s Committee on Finance on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at 6:00 PM, in the Aldermanic Chambers, 2nd Floor, City Hall, 93 Highland Avenue, on the Order of Alderman Tony Lafuente, Chairman of the Committee, for public input on #202944, a proposed appropriation and authorization to borrow $255,982,704 for the construction of a new Somerville High School. Somerville Police Warn Residents of IRS Scams


The Somerville Police Department is receiving numerous reports from residents regarding IRS Phone Scams. The calls indicate that there is a “lawsuit filed against you”, and leaves a message for a return phone call number. Please do not call this number. Don’t answer unknown phone numbers, since these might be robocalls. Do not speak or touch any buttons during the call, since this might enable more calls in the future. On March 9, 2017, at approximately 18:05 hours, I, Officer Rivera, while in full uniform and working as Alpha 1, was informed by Saks Fifth Loss Prevention Detective, XXXXX, via department issued cell phone, that a white male, who was wearing a white and blue winter hat, a black coat, and jeans, selected 2 purses from the display and exited the store onto Canal Street. Last Friday in the late afternoon, two teams arrived early at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of the University of Massachusetts at Boston for the Massachusetts Charter School Athletic Organization Girls’ Basketball High School Championship Game. Most players on both teams were excited and smiling, and went about the business of warming up and preparing for the game.
