My name is Christine and I am a Physical Assistant at Cambridge Health Alliance. I work in the Emergency Departments of Cambridge, Somerville, and Everett Hospitals. This year I have been given the opportunity to run the Boston Marathon through a charity bib for my hospital as an affiliate of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. I myself live in Somerville, and I couldn’t be prouder to run for the community in which I live and work. This is the first time Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) has had a team. This year is particularly special to me because my brother will also be running the race. Now, he did qualify and will likely leave me in the dust, but I’m proud to say the event will be a family affair.
I’ve run a few marathons in the past (Marine corps x2, NYC), so the training is coming along smoothly. However it’s still a ton of work and requires a great amount of discipline! The greatest challenge for me however is raising the $7500 required for a charity bib. All of the money will go directly to my charity, Cambridge Health Alliance. My grandfather, Jim Trotta, suggested I reach out to my local Lions Club as part of my fundraising. He has been a member of the District 23A New Fairfield, CT Lions club for longer than I’ve been alive (29 years +), and is a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award. All my life I’ve known the Lions Club as a big part of who my grandfather is, and I greatly respect and admire all the wonderful things the club does.
CHA hired me fresh out of PA School and I have grown so much as a provider since beginning my position 3 years ago. I am so happy to have the opportunity to give back to this wonderful system and community. As you may know, CHA is a community hospital providing essential medical care to the Cambridge, Somerville, and metro-north communities. Below is just a sampling of the services we provide:
• Cambridge Public Health Department
• Aging wisely Everett
• addiction resources and substance use
• breast health initiative
• center for mindfulness and compassion
• community health improvement
• healthcare for the homeless
• teen health centers of Somerville, Cambridge, and Everett
• Zinberg clinic and HIV services
• volunteer health advisor program
• WIC (women, infants, and children) program
