President Trump’s abdication of responsibility on climate issues should serve as a call to action for the rest of us. We’ll have drag him kicking and screaming to a smaller carbon footprint. Our goal of being carbon neutral in Somerville by 2050 remains unchanged, and the other 60 mayors I serve with in the Climate Mayors organization are in lock step. We’re going to deliver at the local level.
What we need is for every mayor to join, and every town council, and every governor. We’re going to have to go out and evangelize, sending the message that we need to respond to this reckless ambivalence with action.
Climate Mayors commit to adopt, honor and uphold Paris Climate Agreement goals
STATEMENT FROM THE CLIMATE MAYORS IN RESPONSE TO PRESIDENT TRUMP’S WITHDRAWAL FROM THE PARIS CLIMATE AGREEMENT
Thursday, June 1st 2017
The President’s denial of global warming is getting a cold reception from America’s cities.
As 82 Mayors representing 39 million Americans, we will adopt, honor, and uphold the commitments to the goals enshrined in the Paris Agreement. We will intensify efforts to meet each of our cities’ current climate goals, push for new action to meet the 1.5 degrees Celsius target, and work together to create a 21st century clean energy economy.
